They all came to the wrong place at the wrong time.

Two Arkansas firemen, Vince and Don, get hold of a map that leads to a cache of stolen gold in an abandoned factory in East St. Louis. What they don't know is that the factory is on the turf of a local gang, who come by to execute one of their enemies. Vince sees the shooting, the gang spots Vince, and extended mayhem ensues. As Vince and Don try to escape, gang leader King James argues with his subordinate Savon about how to get rid of the trespassers.

Produced and co-written by two then young, pre-Back To The Future's Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, directed years later by Walter Hill and featuring an equally strange cast and premise. This is right up there with one of the most 90's movies I've ever seen.
Most of the movie takes place in this one warehouse with our characters, and the plot rarely strays away from this setting. The script relies on tropes, such as misunderstandings and dumb characters, to complicate things and move the plot forward. The two iconic Ice rappers, Cube and T, offer great performances, and the late Bill Paxton makes a great thief with a heart that you want to cheer for.

it's tempting to try to read something into this about colonialism or class, and there's probably something to that, so knock yourselves out. but Hill (and the script credited to Zemeckis and Bob Gale) seems to actively resist that in favor of a lean, nasty SIERRA MADRE knockoff, a story of plain old avarice, with everyone equally opportunistically vicious and stupid.

One of the few modern Walter Hill-helmed vehicles that for one reason or another has escaped me. Finally got around to it and not sure it gets more 90s than this! Starring all the Ices - Cube and T, Tiny Lister (Zeus to those of us of a certain age), Paxton, Sadler, and Art Evans among others. The premise is a strange one with two firefighters by chance finding out there could be solid gold religious artifacts hidden in an abandoned warehouse. In the 1992 film "Trespass," the young Bill Paxton and William Sadler deliver performances that teeter on the edge of overacting, yet somehow enhance the anxiety-inducing cat-and-mouse chase within the dilapidated warehouse. Ice-T and Ice Cube add unexpected layers to the mix. Despite the passage of over 30 years, the film remains a lot of fun and surprisingly holds up, making it a gripping experience for fans of intense thrillers.

This is a classic nineties thriller that isn't great but it is thrilling in all the right places and a thoroughly enjoyable watch all the way through. The plot follows a couple of firefighters who come a cropper of a local drug gang while on the hunt of gold in an old tenement building. Director Walter HIll constantly injects the film with tension which helps to keep things interesting even when the film takes a turn for the ridiculous. The characters are all set up early doors and the audience knows the stakes right from the start. While the story does err towards the predicable side; it remains interesting for the duration and Trespass is an entertaining thriller all the way through. Bill Paxton is great, along with the rest of the cast and theres a real sense of black humour running throughout the film. Good watch with a few beers!

And then someone else was like, "Let's put in a scene where a wooden door is being chopped with an ax." The only thing missing is someone saying, "Heeeeeere's Johnny!"

Random Double Feature Thursday
There was a post going around movie Twitter,
"which celebrity death made you cry?" I openly wept when I found out Bill Paxton passed away. He was a great actor, and an extremely underrated director. Gone but NEVER forgotten.
Trespass is a solid action flick. Good performances, a cool location, and a "Carpenteresque" soundtrack by Ry Cooder make for a fun flick.
